Save to Gallery Messages

There are three types of messages that may display when saving a workflow to a Gallery: Errors, Warnings, and Restricted Data Messages.

Message Types

Errors are reported at the tool level and indicate that tool configurations must be fixed before you can save the app to a Gallery. Some common errors may include:

The Folder Browse question type cannot be used in Apps published to the Web.

Browse(7): Browse tools cannot be used as Analytic App outputs

Resolution: App outputs should write a data file to the app directory. We recommend writing data files to *.yxdb format and reporting output to a *.pcxml file. These file types offer the most flexibility to app users because upon viewing app results, the user will have the option to output to any supported data file type or reporting file type. They can also view a preview of reporting output.

Render(8): The Output Mode in the Render tool must be set to "Choose a Specific Output File."

Resolution: Configure the Render tool to output a specific file rather than a temporary one.

Render(9): c:\test.pcxml is outside the workflow directory

Resolution: For all output files, simply type the file name and the extension to ensure they are written to the same directory as the app itself. i.e. test.pcxml

Warnings are reported at the tool level and indicate an app will not be able to be run in the Gallery unless Alteryx grants an exemption. To apply for an exemption, see below. Some common warnings include:

Email(10): The Email tool is prohibited in the Analytics Gallery.

Run Command(11): The Run Command tool is prohibited in the Analytics Gallery.

Events are prohibited in the Analytics Gallery.

Restricted Data Messages are reported at the tool level and indicate that datasets used in the app are not available for use in the Public Gallery. You may publish apps with restricted data to a Private Studio. A Restricted Data Message will look like:

Allocate Input (12): The "ALTERYX_US_Experian_12A_12B" Dataset cannot be shared in the Public Gallery.

Applying for an Exemption

The following Alteryx Designer tools and events are prohibited in the Analytics Gallery due to the numerous possible configurations and the actions that can be performed:

If you have a workflow that uses one of the prohibited tools or events in a safe manner, you are able to apply for an exemption so that it can be run in the Analytics Gallery. To apply for an exemption:

  1. Email curator@alteryx.com and explain how and why each prohibited tool is used, along with the general purpose of the workflow.

  2. Publish the workflow in your Private Studio and check the option Others may download this workflow.

  3. Add the workflow to a Collection and share it with the Alteryx Curator at curator@alteryx.com.

  4. Allow up to two business days for your workflow to be reviewed and an Alteryx Curator to email you the status of your request.
