Outlook 365 Input reads emails and calendar events from Outlook 365 as a table of values to Designer. Outlook 365 Input can also download email attachments for later processing.

To maintain full functionality of the Outlook 365 data connector, pay attention to compatibility with Designer.

This tool is not automatically installed with Designer. To use this tool, download it from the Alteryx Community.

Log in to Outlook 365

The OAuth method is used for authentication, so you can either use the default Alteryx application by selecting Sign in via Internet Browser or you can provide your own API application by selecting Provide authentication information. Go to Microsoft Outlook 365 for more information on how to create an API application.  

To schedule your workflow on Server when using the Cloud services, you need to select Use Service Principal after selecting Provide authentication information so that your token has an extended expiration, and you need to provide your own API application. 

SIGN IN VIA INTERNET BROWSER 

  1. In Authentication Method, select Sign in via Internet Browser

  2. Click Connect

  3. Enter your credentials and sign in. 

PROVIDE CLIENT ID, CLIENT SECRET AND TENANT ID 

  1. In Authentication Method, select Provide authentication information

  2. Enter Client ID and Tenant ID. If you want to schedule workflows, select Use Service Principal and enter Client IDClient Secret, and Tenant ID

  3. Click Connect

  4. Enter your credentials and sign in. 

Select a Data Source 

Outlook 365 Input can read emails and calendar events from a personal or a shared account.

Email

  1. In Get Data From, select Email.

  2. In Show Folder From, select My Inbox or Shared Account.
    To show folders from a shared account, enter its email address in Account Email and select Show Folders.

  3. Select a folder.

  4. In Read Emails, include or exclude subfolder. To filter the emails, select Search query for selected folder, excluding subfolders and enter a search query. Outlook 365 Input doesn’t support all the search queries available in Outlook due to API limitations.

  5. To download attachments, select Download attachments from emails in the Data tab and enter the destination path.

  6. Select fields to read. Default fields are From Address, To, Subject, CC, and Body Preview.

  7. In the Options tab, select an action to take after procession emails. Options are Do nothing, Archive emails, Delete emails, Mark emails as read, and Move emails to folder.

Calendar

  1. In Get Data From, select Calendar.

  2. In Read Events From, select My Calendar or Shared Account.
    To read events from a shared account, enter its email address in Account Email and select Test Access.

  3. Select a period to read the events in.
    Options are Previous month, This month, Previous quarter, This quarter, Previous year, This year, and Custom date range.

  4. To download attachments, select Download attachments from events in the Data tab and enter the destination path.

  5. Select fields to read. Default fields are Organizer, Response, Subject, and Location Name.
