Tags

To enhance asset management, metadata tagging enables users to categorize assets and use them across various asset management processes. Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) process support and advanced filtering and search in Alteryx One Platform are just some example benefits of tags.

This functionality is available to both Editors and Consumers, with access controlled based on user privileges.

  • The asset is shared with all the tags assigned to it.

  • Tags are available at the asset level across all versions of an asset.

  • Tags are available for:

    • Auto Insights (Datasets and Reports)

    • Datasets

    • Designer (Analytic Apps, Macros, Workflows, and Workflow Packages)

    • Designer Cloud (Workflows)

    • Live Query (Workflows)

    • Plans

Apply Tags

You can apply a tag to an asset in a couple of different ways:

  • Asset Details:

    1. From the Alteryx One Platform Library, select the 3-dot menu for an asset and select View Asset Details. This option is not available for all asset types.

    2. Locate Tags in the Description panel on the right.

    3. Hover your mouse over Tags and select the pencil icon to edit.

    4. Use the dropdown to select a tag or select Manage Tags to create or delete tags.

  • Library:

    1. From Alteryx One Platform Library, select the 3-dot menu for an asset and select Tags.

    2. Use the dropdown to select a tag or select Manage Tags to create or delete tags.

An asset that is tagged displays a tag icon in the Library. Hover over the icon to view the tag name.

Manage Tags

You can use the Manage Tags window to create, manage, delete, and search for available tags created by you or other users across the workspace.

  1. To access the Manage Tags window, select the 3-dot menu for an asset in your library (Folders excluded).

  2. Select Tags and select Manage Tags. The Manage Tags view lists all available tags, along with the user who created each one. If your tag list is extensive, use the search field to find a specific tag by name.

  3. To create a new tag, select New Tag, enter a name in the field, and select Create.

  4. To delete a tag, select its 3-dot menu and select Delete , and to confirm, select Delete on the confirmation dialog.

Filter by Tag

You can filter your asset Library using tags. You can also combine the Tag filter with other filters available in the Library view.

  1. Select Library in the left navigation panel to access your Alteryx One asset library.

  2. To filter by asset, select the filter icon (funnel) at the top of the list and select Tag.

  3. Select one or more tags from the list. The Library view automatically updates to display assets with the selected tags.

Permissions

  • Admins can manage all tags.

  • A user needs Edit permission on an asset to add and manage tags.

  • A user without Edit permission (Viewer) is able to view available tags, view tags assigned to an asset, but not modify existing attributes.
