Business Match Tool
The Dun & Bradstreet Business File Match tool helps you match your customer or prospect file to the Dun & Bradstreet business file. Your file needs to contain the full address information: street address, city, state, and ZIP because the file is run through CASS to standardize the address fields before any matching is performed, which will improve match rates.
A Company Name field is a required field as many businesses can be in the same physical address and data isn’t always as granular as having a suite number. In this case, a Soundex key is generated for the Company Name for more accurate matching.
Macro Tool
This tool is a macro that requires a separate data install and license. To use this tool, contact your Account Executive.
Configure the Tool
Select the business company name from the dropdown.
Specify whether to run the records through CASS or not.
Run the file through CASS: Choose this option to run all input records are run through the CASS tool for address standardization. The CASS address fields are used to match against the Dun & Bradstreet Business file.
Include unmatched CASS records in matching process: Attempts to match all input records, not just those that were successfully CASS certified. When unchecked, only records that got CASS Results Codes of AS01 or AS02 are used in the match process.
Specify the required fields:
Address is a required field.
Address2 is an optional field.
City, State, and ZIP are required. Specify if these are in separate fields or in one combined field.
Records have already been through CASS so do not need CASS processing: Choose this option if your records have already been CASS certified. Specify the required fields:
CASS Address
CASS Suite
CASS City
CASS State
Output Details
The macro produce 2 outputs.
Left anchor: Contains all original input information plus any matching D&B information for all licensed D&B fields.
Right anchor: Contains a report that details the number of input records that matched at each level, with a percentage based on the total number of input records. The match level descriptions are also provided to allow easy reference and understanding of the levels.
Output License Restrictions
According to the data license agreement, this file can only be used for analytical purposes and therefore fields such as Contact name, address and phone numbers cannot be included in the output though these fields can be queried. If you wish to license these fields, please contact your Customer Support Engineer.
Matching Methodology
Since both the D&B database and the incoming file are run through the CASS tool, the first step is to perform a Calgary Join on address + suite, city, state, ZIP. Once the D&B records are pulled out of the Calgary tool based on the previous match logic, several joins are performed to determine the best match.
US Address Level Matches
Match Level A: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and Business Name.
Match Level B: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and amended Business Name.
Match Level C: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and Secondary Business Name.
Match Level D: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and amended Secondary Business Name.
Match Level E: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and the Soundex key for the Business Name.
Match Level F: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and the Soundex key for the amended Business Name.
Match Level G: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and the Soundex key for the Secondary Business Name.
Match Level H: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP and the soundex key for the amended Secondary Business Name.
Canada Address Level Matches
Match Level A: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and Business Name.
Match Level B: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and amended Business Name.
Match Level C: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and the Soundex key for the Business Name.
Match Level D: Record matched on CASS_Address, CASS_Suite, CASS_ZIP, and the soundex key for the amended Business Name.
