Orange polygon containing globe and two arrows pointing toward each other. Map Legend Builder Tool

One Tool Example

Map Legend Builder has a One Tool Example. Visit Sample Workflows to learn how to access this and many other examples directly in Alteryx Designer.

Use Map Legend Builder to take the components that are output from the Map Legend Splitter tool and build them back into a legend table. If you add a Map Legend Builder tool immediately after a Map Legend Splitter tool, the resulting legend is the same as the legend output originally from the Report Map tool. The purpose of the 2 tools is that you can change the data between them and therefore create a custom legend.

Configure the Tool

Specify the fields output from the Map Legend Splitter tool:

  1. TextField: The text you can see in the legend.

  2. ImageField: Contains the report snippet with the legend image.

  3. TextStyleField: The table styling elements for the PCXML table, like the alignment of the text.

  4. ImageStyleField: The table styling elements for the PCXML table, like the alignment of the image.

After you build the legend, you can join it back to the map or any other report elements.

Usecase Example

Consider the legend:

If you want to remove the repeated "Purchase Sum" from the Legend text, after using the Map Legend Splitter tool, the output looks like this:

You can remove "Purchase Sum" from the final legend by adding a Legend Builder tool. For the Text field specification, choose "ThemeBand" and the resulting legend looks like this:
