Connectors

Connectors are custom tools that can access cloud applications and products to read and write data or download and upload files. Alteryx publishes connectors to the Alteryx Community. You have to install a matching version of a connector on Alteryx Server to publish a workflow that uses the connector. Connectors are released independently from Server and require manual updates for new version releases.

The connectors are available as YXI files, a package of an Alteryx tool and all its dependencies. If you share a workflow that contains a YXI tool, the tool is not included and the recipient has to install it.

Install Connectors in Designer

To install a connector:

  1. Download the YXI file for the connector from Alteryx Community.

  2. Open the YXI file. The connector files install to folder depending on the mode.

When running Designer as a user (non-Admin): :\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Alteryx\Tools. Note—Windows might hide this folder.

    When running Designer as Admin:

    - If Install for my account selected, Connector tool folder installs to :\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Alteryx\Tools.

    - If Install for all users, Connector tool folder installs to :\ProgramData\Alteryx\Tools.

The connector’s folder is all Designer needs to use the connector. Therefore, you can copy the folder between your users' machines, or even Server, to install the connector. If you copy the folder to a different Designer version, make sure that the connector version uses the same Embedded Python Version.

Alteryx Server Considerations

To run workflows on a Gallery, Alteryx Server requires a separate installation of the connector on the Server machine.

If you want to publish and run a workflow with a Python connector to Alteryx Server, contact Customer Support for assistance.

Find and Select Versions

To display all available versions if you have more than one version of a connector installed, you can right-click the connector icon on your Designer canvas. Then select Choose version.

To see the version if you have only one version installed, go to the installation folder C:\Users\USER_NAME\AppData\Roaming\Alteryx\Tools and note the version in the folder name.
