Download and Install Alteryx Data Packages

Last modified: March 06, 2023

Follow the steps below to download, install, and activate a dataset from the Alteryx Licensing & Downloads portal. Alteryx compresses datasets using 7z, a file archive format. You can download 7zip from www.7-zip.org. To manage a license for partner data or any product license that uses SRC (.srclc) licenses, visit Manage Partner Data Licenses.

Download a Product

To download a product...

  1. Sign in to the Alteryx Licensing & Downloads portal.
  2. In the Product Downloads area, select the Download button of Data Packages.

  3. In the Version window, select the version of the product you want to download.

  4. In the Preference window, select the Download button of the preferred version.

Install on Local Machine

A local installation requires administrator privileges and adequate disk space. To install the dataset locally...

  1. Download, install and activate a base product (Alteryx Designer or Server).
  2. Download a dataset zip file and extract the contents of the zip file to a local folder.
  3. Run AlteryxDataInstall.exe.
  4. Follow the prompts to install the dataset.
  5. Select the datasets you want to install.
  6. Select any previously installed datasets you want to uninstall. Select Replace to auto-select all datasets you want to uninstall.
  7. Browse to the path where you want to install the datasets.
  8. If you have not already activated the license, select Options > Manage Licenses to activate it. Visit Manage Licenses for more information.

Prepare a Network Install

A network installation allows Alteryx Designer users to point to a central location instead of a local directory. Users can be online or offline. To prepare a network installation...

  1. Create or identify 2 folders:
    • A temporary folder for extracting the contents of the zip file.
    • A shared network folder for users of the dataset.
  2. Download a dataset zip file and extract the contents of the zip file to the temporary folder. Delete this folder after you have installed the data to a network folder.
  3. Run AlteryxDataInstall.exe and select all datasets you want to install.
  4. Select Prepare a Network Install and point to the shared network folder where you want to install the data. The user will run the AlteryxDataInstall.exe from this location.
  5. Select any previously installed datasets you want to uninstall. Select Replace to auto-select all datasets you are updating.
  6. Install the datasets.

Users will navigate to the AlteryxDataInstall.exe located in the shared network folder when they register to use the installed datasets.

Register to Use a Dataset Installed on a Network

To register a dataset from a network location...

  1. Navigate to the network folder where your license administrator installed the dataset. Open the folder and locate the AlteryxDataInstall.exe file. Verify the folder before you continue.
  2. Run AlteryxDataInstall.exe from this folder.
  3. Alteryx displays Alteryx Data Products Install. Confirm the information. Select Next.
  4. Accept the license agreement. Select Next.
  5. Select the datasets you want to install.
  6. Select any previously installed datasets you want to uninstall. Select Replace to auto-select all datasets you are updating.
  7. In Alteryx Data Products Install, select Register From a Network Location.
  8. Confirm the information. Select Next.
  9. If you have not activated the dataset, activate the dataset via Options > Manage Licenses in Designer. Visit Manage Licenses for more information.

Uninstall or Check What's Installed

To uninstall or check what datasets are installed...

  1. Run the AlteryxDataInstall.exe from your local folder. The location of the EXE depends on if you're using the admin or non-admin version of Designer:
    1. Admin C:\Program Files (x86)\Alteryx\DataProducts\Installer
    2. Non-Admin C:\Users\USER-NAME\AppData\Roaming\Alteryx\DataProducts\Installer
  2. The installer shows you what's installed. Choose Datasets to Uninstall and select Finish. Or select Cancel to exit the installer.
