Explore a Use Case with Sample Data
If you don't have data yet, Ask Alteryx can generate realistic sample data for a business scenario you choose. Ask Alteryx then builds and runs a workflow on that data, so you can see how a complete analysis works.
The guided starter prompt is available if your homepage is named Home. On either homepage, you can also ask Ask Alteryx to generate sample data, for example: "Generate sample retail sales data and build a workflow that totals revenue by region."
Start with Sample Data
On the Home page, select the starter prompt for solving a problem when you don't have data yet. You can also enter a similar request in the box.
When Ask Alteryx asks about your industry and department, describe them in the chat, for example "Retail, sales department."
Review the scenarios that Ask Alteryx suggests, and then select one. You can also describe a scenario of your own.
Ask Alteryx generates a sample dataset for the scenario, builds a workflow that uses it, and runs the workflow. This can take a few minutes. The response describes the dataset, the workflow, and the results.
Find the Sample Data and Workflow
The sample dataset is saved to Data, and the workflow is saved to Library. If your homepage is named Home, both are also listed in the Assets panel in the chat. For more information, go to Find and Open Assets from a Chat.

Use Your Own Data
When you're ready to work with your own data, how you add it depends on your homepage:
If your homepage is named Home, upload a CSV or XLSX file to a chat and describe what you want to do. For more information, go to Upload Files to Ask Alteryx.
If your homepage is named Overview, add your data in Data, and then ask Ask Alteryx to use it. For more information, go to Import a File.
