Google BigQuery (ODBC) Connections

You can use the Google BigQuery (ODBC) connector to read data from and write data to Google BigQuery in Alteryx One.

This connector is built on the Unified connector framework and uses an Alteryx-managed ODBC driver. No local driver installation is required.

Important

This connector is currently available in Preview and does not yet offer full feature parity with the existing Google BigQuery connector. Review its capabilities to ensure they meet your requirements before using it in production.

Driver Information

This connection uses an Alteryx-managed Google BigQuery ODBC driver.

Driver installation

The driver is provided by Alteryx One. No separate installation is required.

Authentication

Basic Authentication

Prerequisites

Before creating the connection:

  • Verify that the required Google Cloud APIs are enabled.

  • Obtain access to the Google Cloud project and BigQuery datasets you want to use.

  • Make sure that the supplied credentials have the required BigQuery permissions.

Configure the Connection

To create a connection:

  1. In Alteryx One, go to Data > New Connection.

  2. Search for and select Google BigQuery (Preview).

  3. Configure the connection properties.

  4. Select Test Connection.

  5. After the connection test succeeds, select Create.

Connection Details

Once the connection is created, enter the following details in the appropriate fields:

  • Connection Name: Display name for the connection in Alteryx One.

  • Connection Description: Optional description of the connection.

  • Project ID: ID of the Google Cloud project containing the BigQuery resources.

  • Dataset: Optional default BigQuery dataset.

  • Billing Project ID: Project to which query-processing costs are billed, if applicable.

  • ODBC Driver: Alteryx-managed Google BigQuery ODBC driver.

Authentication Options

The Google BigQuery Preview connector currently supports Username and Password authentication.

Service Account Key, OAuth, and other authentication methods available with the existing Google BigQuery connector should not be documented as supported unless they have been verified with the new ODBC connector.

Limitations

  • The connector is currently available in Preview.

  • Only Basic authentication is supported.

  • The connector does not yet provide full feature parity with the existing Google BigQuery connector.

  • Existing connections and workflows are not automatically migrated to the new connector.

Existing Google BigQuery Connector

Alteryx One also provides an existing JDBC-based Google BigQuery connector. If you require capabilities that are not yet available with the Preview connector, see Google BigQuery Connections.
