Alteryx MCP Server

The Alteryx MCP Server connects your datasets, workflows, and analytic apps capabilities to supported AI apps and MCP clients. Review this page to learn how to set up supported Alteryx assets, connect external AI apps, and understand the toolsets available through the server.

The Alteryx MCP Server doesn't include its own AI model. It connects supported Alteryx capabilities to external AI apps and MCP clients that authenticate on behalf of an Alteryx One user.

When to Use the Alteryx MCP Server

Use the Alteryx MCP Server when you want a supported external AI app or MCP client to access supported Alteryx One capabilities on behalf of an authenticated Alteryx One user.

The MCP Server doesn't replace Alteryx One permissions. Connected AI apps can use only assets and capabilities that are available to the authenticated user.

Capabilities available through the Alteryx MCP Server include:

  • Datasets

  • Workflows

  • Analytic Apps

  • Designer Workflows

  • Knowledge Sources

  • Formulas

  • Assets

Common Tasks

Availability and Credits

The Alteryx MCP Server is included with ProfessionalProfessional and EnterpriseAzienda edition plans, subject to applicable account-level AI settings and user permissions. Beginning October 1, 2026, qualifying workflow runs triggered through the Alteryx MCP Server will consume Automation Credits. Credit consumption follows the existing Alteryx One rules applicable to the user initiating the workflow run.

Authentication and Permissions

The MCP Server uses OAuth 2.0 with PKCE for authentication. When a connected AI app authenticates through OAuth, it acts on behalf of the end user.

Users can access only the Alteryx assets and capabilities they already have permission to use. Setting up an asset for AI use doesn't grant additional access.

Access Controls

To connect to the Alteryx MCP Server, users need the Alteryx MCP Server capability assigned. This is part of the Agent Studio capability. Users without the Alteryx MCP Server capability receive an error when they attempt to connect to the Alteryx MCP Server. To limit access to the Alteryx MCP Server for individual users, a Workspace AdminAmministratore dello spazio di lavoro can assign users a custom role with the Alteryx MCP Server capability disabled.
