AI tools offer secure integration of Large Language Models (LLMs) directly in your analytic workflows. Use AI tools to solve your unique business problems. You can also use AI-assisted tools for smart data preparation to support your complex data and analytics needs.
What Is Included?
AI Tools
Use AI tools to securely integrate approved LLMs directly into your analytic workflows and enhance your ability to solve your business needs. You can find these AI tools in the AI tool palette:
Prompt Tool: Send prompts to a Large Language Model (LLM) and then receive the model’s response as an output.
LLM Override Tool: Select and configure the LLM provider connection that you want to use with the AI tools in your workflow.
AI-Assisted Tools
Note
AI-assisted tools are currently in Public Preview. They might have known issues, might not include all intended features, and is subject to change without notice.
In addition to the AI tools, AI-assisted tools are available for even smarter data preparation, blending, and joining. You can find these AI-assisted tools in the AI tool palette:
Invoice Extractor Tool: Extract line items and metadata from invoices.
Precision Match Tool: Perform a fuzzy match-like operation on string data to standardize different variations of the same phrase to a single value.
Schema Fit Tool: Transform Source data to match the format of Target data.
Synthetic Input Tool: Create synthetic data with GenAI and get started building workflows before you have access to the real data.
How Do I Get Access?
AI tools are available for Full users on Professional and Enterprise Editions. Designer now includes the AI tools in the base installation, so you don’t need to install them separately.
Access Controls for Admins
Users with the Full User role have access to AI tools by default. To limit access to these tools, assign a custom role instead that has the Gen AI Tools capability disabled. Learn more about user roles and capabilities.
To get started, download and install Designer from Alteryx One.
Known Issues for Public Preview Users
If you previously installed the Public Preview version of the AI tools, you must first delete the Public Preview tool folders before upgrading Designer. Go to these folders:
%PROGRAMDATA%\Alteryx\Tools%APPDATA%\Roaming\Alteryx\Tools
Then delete these folders if they exist:

Update AI Tools
Updates for the AI tools release more frequently than Designer. A separate installer is available for such updates.
To update the AI tools, sign in to your Alteryx One workspace and follow these steps:
On the Alteryx One landing page, locate Designer and then select Download.
On the Product Downloads page, select AI Tools from the list of Designer download options.
Select Download.
Open Designer and then open the AI tools YXI file you just downloaded to start the update process.
How do I Connect to an LLM?
Before you can use the AI tools, you must first create a connection in Alteryx One to your LLM. Once you connect your LLM, you can select it in Designer from the LLM Override or Prompt tool.
Access Controls for Admins
Users with the Full User role can create LLM connections by default. To limit access to LLM connections, assign a custom role instead that has the LLM Connectivity capability disabled. Learn more about user roles and capabilities.
Language Support
Language and multibyte character support for input and output data varies by LLM provider and selected model. For more information, please refer to your LLM provider’s documentation.
Software Requirements
AI tools work on Designer 2025.2 or newer. AI tools aren’t supported on Server. To automate workflows with AI tools, you can use Workspace Execution in Alteryx One.
System Requirements
To run AI tools, your computer must meet the same system requirements as Designer.
