Activate Desktop Automation with License Keys
Use these instructions when your Desktop Automation deployment uses Flexera license key activation.
If your organization activates Desktop Automation through Alteryx One instead, go to Activate Desktop Automation with Alteryx One.
Prerequisites
A Designer license key.
A Desktop Automation add-on key.
Local administrator permissions on the computer.
Get Your Designer License Key
For Alteryx One Customers Using Key-Based Activation
Your Account Administrator should invite you to an Alteryx One workspace.
Accept the invitation email and complete your registration in Alteryx One.
In Alteryx One, go to the Overview page.
On the Designer tile, select Activate.
Copy your Unified Designer License Key.
For Legacy Licensing
Use your existing Designer License Key provided through your licensing process.
Get Your Desktop Automation Add-On Key
Locate the Alteryx Desktop Automation add-on key in the email sent to your License Administrator.
The add-on appears in the email exactly as Alteryx Desktop Automation.
If you can’t locate the email, Alteryx Support can provide the key.
Install and Activate Designer
Important
Make sure you have local administrator permissions when you enter the license keys and that User Account Control (UAC) doesn’t interfere with service registration.
If you previously activated Designer with online activation, deactivate it before you continue.
Install Alteryx Designer.
Start Alteryx Designer.
If the License dialog doesn’t open automatically, select Options > Manage Licenses.
Select Activate New License > Use a License Key.
Enter the 2 license keys on separate lines:
Your Designer license key.
Your Alteryx Desktop Automation add-on key.
Select Activate.
Configure Desktop Automation for a New Installation
For a new machine installation:
In Alteryx Designer, go to Options > Advanced > Settings.
Select Next through the configuration pages and adjust settings as needed.
Select Finish.
AlteryxService should start automatically and enable scheduling.
Verify Service Configuration
To confirm that the service is configured correctly:
Open the Services application in Windows.
Find AlteryxService.
Open Properties.
Make sure Startup type is set to Automatic or Automatic (Delayed Start).
The Desktop Automation license enables AlteryxService and the scheduler with My Computer as a schedule location.
