Designer Modern View
Note
Modern View is currently in preview. Preview provides early access to what’s coming next in Alteryx. Features may change as they continue to evolve.
Modern View provides a streamlined interface for building, configuring, and running workflows in Designer desktop. Learn what changes in Modern View, when to use Classic View, and which features are available in Designer 2026.3. It uses the Designer Cloud experience as a foundation to create a more consistent experience across desktop and browser-based Designer environments.
Use Modern View for core workflow building and execution. If a workflow requires functionality that isn't available in Modern View, switch to Classic View.
注記
Modern View doesn't change how the Designer engine executes a workflow. Existing workflows should continue to run in Designer desktop.
Changes in Modern View
The core workflow-building experience remains familiar, but the location and behavior of some controls differ from Classic View.
Tool Palette: Browse tools in a vertical list, search within the palette, or double-click a tool to add it to the canvas.
Canvas: Add and connect tools, add comments and containers directly from the canvas, configure supported tools, and navigate workflows with updated interactions.
Results: Review data and metadata, select input and output anchors, view data quality indicators, and use suggestions, messages, and data profiling.
Configuration: Supported tools use modern configuration experiences. Some tools continue to display Classic configuration areas within Modern View.
Menus and panels: Some app menu options, context menu actions, workflow tab actions, and panel customization options aren't available in Modern View.
Switch between Modern View and Classic View
Use the Modern View toggle in Designer to choose the interface for building and configuring your workflow. When you switch views, Designer updates the design-time interface. Panels, menus, configuration areas, and canvas interactions can differ between views.
Switch Back to Classic View
Switch to Classic View when you need functionality that isn't supported in Modern View. For example, use Classic View for:
Interface Designer, Interface tools, Action tools, and interface anchors.
Selected user settings and app menu options, including licensing, workflow comparison, workflow locking, dependency management, and In-DB connection management.
Building macros or analytic apps that use Interface tools or require Interface Designer.
File packaging and file types that Modern View doesn't currently support.
Feature Availability
Modern View supports core workflow authoring and execution. Some functionality remains available only in Classic View, while Modern View continues to evolve.
For details, go to Modern View Vs Classic View.
Available
Open workflows, add and connect tools, configure supported tools, run workflows, and review results.
Use supported classic tools, macros in workflows, Marketplace tools, and common canvas actions, including drag-and-drop and double-click tool insertion from the Tool Palette.
Use Results experiences, including data view, metadata view, suggestions, input and output anchor selection, data quality indicators, messages, and data profiling
Available with Limitations
Open or edit macro and analytic app workflows with limited functionality. Workflows that use Interface tools or Interface Designer might require Classic View.
Use some workflow tabs, context menus, app menu options, panel customization, and advanced options with limited functionality.
Configure tools in Classic configuration areas when a fully modernized configuration experience isn't available.
How Modern View Affects Designer
Modern View is intended to improve onboarding, discoverability, accessibility, and consistency across Designer experiences. Existing workflows should continue to run in Designer desktop, but some design-time interactions, configuration patterns, and feature locations differ from Classic View.
For Existing Designer Users
Core Designer concepts remain familiar. You can build workflows with tools, connect data, run workflows, and inspect results. You might notice differences in the Tool Palette, Results grid, Configuration panel, menus, workflow tab management, and canvas interactions. Use Classic View when a workflow requires features that aren't available in Modern View.
For New Designer Users
Modern View provides a streamlined entry point into Designer with a modern Tool Palette, clearer Results experiences, and improved discoverability for common workflow-building tasks. Start with foundational Designer concepts, and then use the feature comparison and related help topics to understand which experiences are available in Modern View.
Tidy
Tidy automatically arranges the tools on your workflow canvas.
Known Limitations
Modern View doesn't currently support every design-time feature. Use Classic View when you need:
Interface Designer, Interface tools, Action tools, or interface anchors.
Settings, menu options, file types, or workflow packaging scenarios that aren't available in Modern View.
Full macro or analytic app authoring functionality.
Classic-only tool configuration.
