Alteryx MCP Server
The Alteryx MCP Server connects your datasets, workflows, and analytic apps capabilities to supported AI apps and MCP clients. Review this page to learn how to set up supported Alteryx assets, connect external AI apps, and understand the toolsets available through the server.
The Alteryx MCP Server doesn't include its own AI model. It connects supported Alteryx capabilities to external AI apps and MCP clients that authenticate on behalf of an Alteryx One user.
When to Use the Alteryx MCP Server
Use the Alteryx MCP Server when you want a supported external AI app or MCP client to access supported Alteryx capabilities on behalf of an authenticated Alteryx One user.
The MCP Server doesn't replace Alteryx One permissions. Connected AI apps can use only assets and capabilities that are available to the authenticated user.
Capabilities available through the Alteryx MCP Server include:
Datasets
Workflows
Analytic apps
Alteryx knowledge sources
Formula validation
Common Tasks
Set Up Assets before using datasets, workflows, and apps in Agent Studio or supported AI clients.
To configure a supported AI app or MCP client, go to Connect an AI App to the Alteryx MCP Server.
Go to Alteryx MCP Server Toolsets to understand which MCP toolsets are available and what each toolset can do.
Follow the Build Analytic Apps for MCP Tools guide to design analytic apps that work well with supported AI clients.
Availability And Credits
Alteryx MCP Server functionality is included as part of Alteryx Enterprise and Professional Editions. Currently, capabilities accessed via MCP Server do not count against customer's Automation Credit allotment. Automation Credit consumption metrics applicable to such capabilities are under development and may be introduced in the future. Alteryx will inform customer in advance of any such change, including how and when capabilities accessed via MCP Server will consume Automation Credits.
Authentication And Permissions
The MCP Server uses OAuth 2.0 with PKCE for authentication. When a connected AI app authenticates through OAuth, it acts on behalf of the end user.
Users can access only the Alteryx assets and capabilities they already have permission to use. Setting up an asset for AI use doesn't grant additional access.
