Query Execution in Live Query
Live Query uses pushdown processing to execute supported workflow operations in your cloud data platform.
SQL Generation and Execution
Alteryx generates the SQL required to perform supported Live Query operations.
The generated SQL is then executed in your CDP.
Pushdown Processing
Tools available in Live Query mode are designed to push their processing into the selected CDP. The tools available to you can vary by CDP.
Functions That Require CDP Objects
Some supported functions require Alteryx to create function objects in the CDP.
These can include operations associated with:
Advanced Filter and Formula functionality.
RegEx.
Text to Columns.
IRR and XIRR calculations in Summarize.
The computation still occurs in the CDP.
AI and Machine Learning Operations
For supported AI and machine learning operations, the CDP can invoke an external AI service.
As a result, data used by those operations can reach the external AI service.
Operations Outside the CDP
Not every part of the Live Query experience occurs inside the CDP.
Alteryx performs activities such as:
SQL generation.
Job orchestration.
Query-state coordination.
Pagination coordination.
The browser is also responsible for displaying IRG results and temporarily holding retrieved preview data.
Non-CDP input can additionally require extraction and staging before the data is loaded into the CDP.
Query Optimization and Errors
Queries go through an optimization stage before submission.
Design-time errors can appear in the tool, canvas, and Results Grid. Runtime failures are reflected in job status and can also appear in the CDP's query history or console.
Query and Execution Information
Alteryx stores job status and history. Query-level execution history is also available in your CDP according to the platform's query-history policies.
Generated SQL can contain literal values used by the workflow, including filter constants and values entered directly into workflow configurations.
