Workflow Integration to Designer Desktop
Use a Live Query output dataset as an input in Designer Desktop to continue processing data with Designer Desktop tools. The Use In option creates a Designer Desktop workflow with the selected dataset already configured as an input, and it supports all Live Query cloud data warehouses—BigQuery, Databricks, and Snowflake.
How It Works
Live Query processes data in the connected cloud data platform and writes the output to an Alteryx One dataset. After you run the Live Query workflow, select Use In from its Output tool to create a Designer Desktop workflow that uses the dataset.
Create a Designer Desktop Workflow
Make sure you have Designer Desktop installed on your machine before you continue.
In your Live Query workflow, add and configure an Output tool.

Run the workflow to create the output dataset.
Select the Output tool, then select Use In.
Select Designer Desktop.
Designer Desktop automatically opens the workflow.
The workflow contains an Input Data tool configured to use the Live Query output dataset. You don’t need to find the dataset or set up a separate connection to the underlying cloud data platform.
Important
Sign in to the same Alteryx One workspace in the web experience and Designer Desktop. If Designer Desktop is connected to a different workspace, the new workflow won’t be available there.
Use In is available only after the output dataset has been created. If you don’t see the option, run the Live Query workflow first.
Keep the Dataset Up to Date
The output dataset is refreshed each time you run the Live Query workflow. The Designer Desktop workflow continues to reference that dataset and can use its latest output.
Running the Designer Desktop workflow doesn’t run the Live Query workflow. To refresh the dataset, run the Live Query workflow separately.
Current Limitations
Use In creates a new Designer Desktop workflow from a Live Query output dataset. It doesn’t currently support:
Adding the dataset to an existing Designer Desktop workflow.
Creating or updating a Designer Cloud workflow.
Running the Live Query workflow automatically when the Designer Desktop workflow runs.
