Assign Desktop Automation Access
Desktop Automation is a per-user add-on for Alteryx Designer. Before a user can activate Desktop Automation through Alteryx One, a Workspace Admin must assign Desktop Automation access to that user.
Before You Begin
Make sure that:
Your organization has purchased Desktop Automation seats.
The user has access to the applicable Alteryx One workspace.
The user has the Designer access required by your Alteryx One edition.
A Desktop Automation seat is available for assignment.
Assign the Desktop Automation User Role
Sign in to Alteryx One as a Workspace Admin.
Open the workspace where the user needs Desktop Automation access.
Go to the Users page.
Select the user.
Assign the Desktop Automation User role.
Save the change.
The Desktop Automation User role grants the Desktop Automation capability, which lets the user schedule and run workflows automatically on their desktop.
After the role is assigned, the user can authenticate through Alteryx One in a supported Designer version. Desktop Automation is enabled based on the user’s entitlement and capability.
If Designer was already activated before the role was assigned, the user should restart Designer to refresh the license token. Otherwise, the updated role can take up to 12 hours to appear in the refreshed token.
For user activation and setup steps, go to Activate Desktop Automation with Alteryx One.
Remove Desktop Automation Access
To remove Desktop Automation access, remove the Desktop Automation User role from the user in the applicable workspace.
The change takes effect when the user’s Designer license token refreshes. The user can restart Designer to force a refresh. Otherwise, the token can take up to 12 hours to refresh.
After the refreshed token no longer includes Desktop Automation access, scheduled Desktop Automation runs fail because the license is missing.
Troubleshooting
If a user can’t access Desktop Automation after you assign the role:
Confirm that the user is signing in with the same Alteryx One account that received the role.
Confirm that the account has an available Desktop Automation entitlement.
Confirm that the user has the required base Designer access.
Ask the user to restart Designer after the role assignment to refresh the license token.
Confirm that the user is running a Designer version that supports Desktop Automation activation through Alteryx One.
