External Marketplace Apps
External marketplace apps let you work with trusted Alteryx insights from supported external AI platforms. These apps connect an external AI platform to Alteryx One datasets that are set up for MCP use.
When to Use External Marketplace Apps
Use an external marketplace app when you want users to ask questions about Alteryx One datasets from an external AI platform without moving the permission boundary away from Alteryx One.
External marketplace apps are different from custom MCP client connections. Marketplace apps are published experiences that users discover and enable from the external marketplace. Custom MCP client connections use the Alteryx MCP Server to connect a supported MCP client directly. To configure a custom MCP client, go to Connect an AI App to the Alteryx MCP Server.
Access and Permissions
External marketplace apps don't grant additional access to Alteryx One datasets. You can work only with datasets that meet all of these requirements:
You have an Alteryx One account and the required license or entitlement.
You can authenticate to Alteryx One.
The dataset is set up for MCP use.
You have permission to access the dataset in Alteryx One.
Organizations can enable or disable marketplace apps in the external AI workspace. Individual users still need to enable or connect the app for themselves and authenticate to Alteryx One.
