External Marketplace Apps
External marketplace apps let you work with trusted Alteryx insights from supported external AI experiences. These apps use the Alteryx MCP Server to connect an external AI app to Alteryx One assets that are set up for MCP use.
When to Use External Marketplace Apps
Use an external marketplace app when you want users to ask questions about Alteryx One datasets from an external AI experience without moving the permission boundary away from Alteryx One.
External marketplace apps are different from custom MCP client connections. Marketplace apps are published experiences that users discover and enable from the external marketplace. Custom MCP client connections use the Alteryx MCP Server URL to connect a supported MCP client directly. To configure a custom MCP client, go to Connect an AI App to the Alteryx MCP Server.
Access and Permissions
External marketplace apps don't grant additional access to Alteryx One assets. You can work only with assets that meet all of these requirements:
You have an Alteryx One account and the required license or entitlement.
You can authenticate to Alteryx One.
The asset or trusted content is set up for the external app or connected MCP experience.
You have permission to access the asset or trusted content in Alteryx One.
Organizations can enable or disable marketplace apps in the external AI workspace. Individual users still need to enable or connect the app for themselves and authenticate to Alteryx One.
