Alteryx Insights Plugin for ChatGPT

Use the Alteryx Insights Plugin for ChatGPT to ask questions about Alteryx One datasets that are set up for Insights MCP. The plugin connects ChatGPT to the Alteryx MCP Server so users can request trusted insights.

Before You Start

Before you use the plugin, make sure these requirements are met:

  • Your organization has ChatGPT Business or ChatGPT Enterprise.

  • A ChatGPT admin has enabled the plugin for your organization.

  • Your organization is on an Alteryx One Professional or Enterprise Edition.

  • Agent Studio is enabled for your Alteryx One account.

  • The AI Agent capability has been enabled for all roles that should be allowed to access this in Alteryx One.

  • The datasets you want to use have Use in Insights MCP turned on in Set Up MCP Assets.

  • You have permission to access the datasets in Alteryx One.

Find the Plugin in ChatGPT

  1. In ChatGPT, select Plugins.

  2. Search for the Alteryx Insights Plugin or open the company-approved plugins tab.

  3. Open the plugin detail page.

  4. If the plugin shows that it is disabled by an admin, contact your ChatGPT workspace admin.

Connect the Plugin to Alteryx One

  1. On the Alteryx Insights Plugin page in ChatGPT, select Connect.

  2. When prompted, sign in to Alteryx One.

  3. Approve access through OAuth.

  4. Select your workspace.

  5. Return to ChatGPT after authentication completes.

Use the Plugin in a Chat

To use the plugin in a chat, choose either option:

  • Type @Alteryx Insights Plugin in the message composer.

  • Select the plus icon in the message composer, select More, then select Alteryx Insights Plugin.

Enter a question about an Alteryx dataset that is set up for Insights MCP. Review the response before you use it downstream.

What You Can Ask

The plugin is focused on dataset interaction and insight generation through the Alteryx Insights MCP. Supported analysis can include:

  • Trend analysis, such as how metrics change over time.

  • Root cause analysis, such as why changes occurred.

  • Common cause analysis, such as relationships between metrics.

  • Outlier detection, such as unexpected or anomalous behavior.

Note that the agent can't run workflows or analytic apps. To run workflows or analytic apps, go to Alteryx MCP Server Toolsets.

Security and Data Handling

The plugin uses OAuth so ChatGPT can connect to Alteryx One on behalf of the authenticated user. The user's permissions in Alteryx One determine which datasets set up for Insights MCP the plugin can use.

Traffic between ChatGPT and Alteryx One uses encrypted connections. Data stored by ChatGPT, including chat history or tool transcripts, is governed by the customer's OpenAI contract, edition, administrator settings, and security controls.
