Workspace Execution in Alteryx One

Workspace Execution provides a workflow execution and scheduling option in the cloud.

To take advantage of Workspace Execution, you can link Designer to your Alteryx One workspace and save your desktop-built workflows to your Alteryx One library. Once saved, you can run or schedule those workflows. The execution takes place in the cloud—very similar to the way you can save and execute a workflow in Alteryx Server today.

Requirements

To use Workspace Execution, you need…

Set Up Workspace Execution for a Workspace

Note

Workspace Execution requires an Alteryx One Enterprise-tier account. Alteryx One supports Workspace Execution on the Alteryx Data Plane and on workspaces with AWS, Azure, or GCP Private Data Processing enabled.

Workspace Execution on the Alteryx Data Plane is the default configuration for new Alteryx One workspaces. Depending on your data security needs, you can consider other deployment options (noted below).

Workspace Execution on Alteryx Data Plane

By default, Workspace Execution uses the Alteryx-managed Alteryx Data Plane.

This option uses the Alteryx One Software as a Service (SaaS) environment to process data, meaning you don’t have to worry about infrastructure because it’s fully managed by Alteryx.

The Alteryx Data Plane is an ideal option if you don’t manage highly sensitive data. It eliminates the need to bring your own hardware and cloud infrastructure, reducing reliance on extensive admin resources. If you need workflow automation without a heavy lift from your internal IT team, the Alteryx Data Plane is a great fit.

For details, go to Workspace Execution on Alteryx Data Plane.

Workspace Execution Private Data Storage

Alteryx Data Storage (ADS) is the Alteryx file storage. This is the default storage location for all newly created workspaces.

Private Data Storage allows you to replace ADS with your own file store. Private Data Storage supports Amazon Web Services (AWS) S3, Azure ADLS, and Google Cloud Storage (GCS) as storage providers.

You can use Private Data Storage as part of a hybrid solution (along with the Alteryx Data Plane for processing) or as part of Private Data Handling.

To set up Private Data Storage for AWS, Azure, or GCP, follow these guides:

Workspace Execution Private Data Handling

Private Data Handling is a capability in Alteryx One Platform that allows you to store your data and run data processing jobs in your own cloud infrastructure. Private data handling provides more security and control for those with sensitive data. It also improves performance and reduces egress costs by moving processing in Alteryx One next to your data.

To enable Workspace Execution with Private Data Handling, follow these steps...

  1. Set up Private Data Storage for AWS, Azure, or GCP...

  2. Set up Private Data Processing for AWS, Azure, or GCP...

  3. Deploy the Workspace Execution Module for AWS, Azure, or GCP...

    Note

The provisioning process takes approximately 35–40 minutes to complete. When you enable Workspace Execution on the workspace, virtual machines deploy for the purposes of executing your desktop-built workflows in Alteryx One.

  4. Once the provisioning finishes, complete the rest of the setup in Designer Desktop with these instructions. After setup completes, you can find your Designer Desktop workflows on the Library page.

Next Steps

Once you enable Workspace Execution on your workspace, you're ready to get started. To connect Designer to Alteryx One, follow the instructions in Create a Link between Designer Desktop and Alteryx One Platform.
