Version Updates
Starting with the 2026.1 release, Designer updates and upgrades are available exclusively via the Alteryx One app. When you launch the Alteryx One app, the app checks whether your Designer version is up to date and notifies you if an update is available. Provided you have the appropriate permissions, you can proceed with the update.
Installation Restrictions
If your user permissions prevent you from performing the update or upgrade, you will encounter these messages:
"An update for Designer is available, but you don't have the right permissions to install it. Contact your admin to initiate the update for you."
"A major Designer update from [xx.x] to [xx.x] is available, but you don’t have the right permissions to install it. Contact your admin to initiate the update for you."
Admin and Non-Admin Installation
Designer is installed in the same mode as the Alteryx One app (Admin or Non-Admin). The default Alteryx One app installation is per-user (Non-Admin).
If you need the Admin version of Designer, you need to install the Alteryx One app as an Admin.
Upgrade to 2026.1
Warning
If you have a previous version of Designer (2025.2 or earlier), you must download and install the Alteryx One app (from the Alteryx One Download Center) to upgrade to Designer 2026.1.
Once installed, launch the Alteryx One app. If the app detects an existing (pre-2026.1) version of Designer, it prompts you to upgrade.
Select Get Designer 26.1 to download and install Designer. Select Remind Me Later to dismiss the notification (the notification will reappear the next time you launch the Alteryx One app).
If you select to proceed with the upgrade, the Alteryx One app downloads and installs Designer. You don’t need to interact with an installer UI. The version of Designer (admin or non-admin) installed depends on your Alteryx One app installation type.
If your installation type is admin (per-machine), the Alteryx One app downloads and installs the admin (per-machine) type of Designer.
If your installation type is non-admin (per-user), the Alteryx One app downloads and installs the non-admin (per-user) type of Designer.
Note
Non-admin is the default installation.
Once Designer is installed, you’ll receive a confirmation notification in the Alteryx One app, and you can start using Designer.
Designer Updates
If a minor Designer update (for example, a patch) is available, the Alteryx One app notifies you. You can then install the update or dismiss the notification (via Remind Me Later).
Select Update Now to download the update and start installation.
The download is automatic (occurs in the background) and the install runs silently without an installer UI. As a result, you don’t have to click through installer screens anymore. Note that you must close Designer to apply the update (including patches).
While the update is in progress, the Alteryx One app communicates installation progress, success, or failure. During the update, Designer won't be available, but you can continue using Alteryx One.
When installation finishes, the Alteryx One app launches Designer.
Designer Major Version Upgrades
If a major Designer upgrade is available (for example, from version 2025.2 to 2026.1), the Alteryx One app notifies you. You can then install the upgrade or dismiss the notification (via Remind Me Later).
Select Get Designer 26.1 (for example) to download the update and start installation.
The download process doesn't include an installer UI (the installation runs silently in the background).
While the update is in progress, the Alteryx One app communicates installation progress, success, or failure. During the update, Designer won't be available, but you can continue using Alteryx One.
When installation finishes, the Alteryx One app launches Designer.
