Upgrade Considerations
Warning
This section contains important updates related to the 2025.2 release. Please review these items before you upgrade.
Decoupled Designer and Server Updates
To modernize the update experience and reduce IT overhead, Alteryx has decoupled Designer and Server updates. This change allows you to upgrade Designer independently from Server, so users can immediately access the latest Designer features without waiting for Server approval or environment upgrades. This improvement streamlines adoption, accelerates access to new functionality, and reduces delays—especially for organizations with lengthy Server update cycles.
With this enhancement, assets built in newer versions of Designer are no longer blocked from being published to older Server environments. Instead of a blocking error, users will now see a warning and can choose whether to proceed, empowering teams with more flexibility while reducing workflow disruptions.
For important details (including potential limitations) and ongoing updates, go to Designer Server Version Compatibility.
Workflow Execution
In the 2025.2 release, the previous Designer-Server version compatibility limitations still apply to workflow execution. That is, you can’t execute workflows created in a newer version of Designer than Server.
The 2026.1 release will be the first release where you can take advantage of the decoupling between Designer and Server. That is, you can upgrade Designer to 26.1 and save and execute 26.1 workflows in Server 25.2 (noting Potential Execution Impacts).
AMP Engine as the Future
Over the past several releases, we’ve continued to build exciting new capabilities on the AMP engine. AMP delivers significant performance benefits and powers many of our newest features, including AMP-only tools like GenAI, Control Container, Rank, and Data Cleanse Pro. New workflows now use AMP by default, and new connectors are also AMP-only.
Today, AMP is where innovation in Designer is happening. As we look ahead, we’re investing in AMP as the strategic engine for Alteryx One. Going forward, we will focus our innovations, development, and improvements on the AMP engine. Rest assured, the original Engine will still receive critical fixes until AMP adoption and migration are complete.
We are committed to investing in AMP as our primary Engine. To take advantage of what’s next, we encourage you to begin your transition today. We’re committed to supporting you every step of the way.
Deprecation of Remaining 32-bit Connectors
We will gradually end support for several file formats. We have added warning messages in Designer to alert you of the upcoming changes and encourage you to migrate to a suitable alternative file format. Additionally, we removed read and write support for these files in new workflows. This involves removing these options from the Single Access Point menu. You can still enter the file path via file browse, or enter a file path via the Input and Output tool configuration settings.
These file types will be phased out: ACCDB, ACCDB2010, DB, DBF, DBF5, DBFIV, and FoxPro. 32-bit ODB, SDB, SDF (these formats can be supported by 32-bit or 64-bit drivers). We will be removing support for the 32-bit drivers.
Removal of Laboratory Tools
We have removed these tools from the Laboratory tool category:
Transpose In-DB: If you still need to access this tool, right-click the Designer tool palette and select Show Deprecated Tools.
The Connect JSON Builder and Connect Output tools have been officially deprecated and moved from the Laboratory category to the Connect category in Designer. Note that by default, the Connect category is hidden, as all tools within it are deprecated. As a result, you can't see these tools unless you specifically choose to Show Deprecated Tools in Designer.
These tools were experimental and not officially supported by Alteryx.
Miniconda3 Folder Removed
Alteryx Designer has fully removed the miniconda3 folder and all Conda environment components from the Alteryx installer. Python environments are now managed using native venv for v1 SDK tools and bundled Python Execution Distributions (PEDs) for v2 SDK tools.
CEF Version Upgrade
We have upgraded the Chromium Embedded Framework (CEF) version to 135.0.22.
Localization Support
All supported languages are functional, and translations have been updated. However, you might notice occasional inaccuracies or inconsistencies, especially in new features. Additional improvements are planned for upcoming patches and the next major release.
Alteryx Copilot Available for Professional and Enterprise Users
Alteryx Copilot is now available to all users with a Basic or Full User role on a Professional or Enterprise Edition. New trial users can also access Alteryx Copilot. Designer now includes Alteryx Copilot in the base installation, so you don’t need to install Alteryx Copilot separately. To get started, download and install Designer from Alteryx One.
New Features: Minor Release (2025.2.1.75)
Tableau Hyper Library Upgrade
We have upgraded the Tableau Hyper library to version 0.0.23576. This upgrade significantly improves input/output performance.
Improved Error Message
We have updated the error message displayed when the XLS and XLSB drivers are not installed. This update provides more clarity to users.
New Features: Designer
Designer UI Updates for Full and Basic Users
Important
This content applies to the new Alteryx One Editions launched in spring 2025. It doesn’t apply to accounts purchased earlier unless those accounts have migrated to one of the new editions.
We have updated the Designer user interface for Basic users and Full users who don't have access to certain add-ons. Full and Basic users can now clearly identify which settings and options they have access to based on their user type. As part of these updates, the Designer main menus, User Settings, and Workflow Configuration settings have been updated.
Product Download Links Updates for Alteryx One
With the launch of Alteryx One, we’ve updated product download links accessible via Designer. These include links for Designer Downloads, Download Predictive Tools, and the download links available via alerts (when a new version of a product is available). Users will land on the correct licensing portal based on their license type (Alteryx Licensing Portal or new Alteryx One licensing).
Alteryx One UI Updates and Dialog Modernization
We have replaced instances of “Alteryx Analytics Cloud Platform” (or variations) with “Alteryx One Platform”.
Additionally, we have made several UI updates to the dialog windows in Designer. These updates offer a more polished, accessible, and consistent experience across Alteryx products.
Cloud Links to Support Python SDK Tools
We have enhanced Cloud Links in Alteryx Designer to support Python SDK tools, enabling smoother integration and more efficient workflows. By introducing Active Link management and SDK access controls, we have simplified the process of connecting to Alteryx Cloud. This ensures a consistent and reliable experience while allowing you to focus on data-driven tasks.
As a new user, you can set up your Active Link via the Cloud Link Wizard during onboarding, or at your first use of a cloud feature, if onboarding is skipped. You can change the Active Link anytime in Designer. To learn more, go to Active Links.
Marketplace Add-Ons Improvements
We have made a number of UI updates and several improvements to the Marketplace Add-Ons experience in Designer:
We added messaging for Admin installs to prompt the user to install a tool for all users or a single user.
We updated the install process so that YXI installs run silently, reducing the steps needed to download and install YXIs.
Suppress Errors via Control Containers
We have introduced robust error suppression within Control Containers. Use this to prevent workflow failures due to localized issues, enable visibility into captured errors, and create intelligent sequencing logic.
With error suppression, fewer workflows fail unexpectedly, less manual effort is needed to rerun or patch jobs due to transient or expected issues, Server admins don’t need to sift through noisy logs to find meaningful problems, and teams can automate more complex logic (for example, retries and conditionals) without external scripting. For details, go to Control Container Tool.
Increased Email Attachment Limit
We have increased the email attachment limit to 25 MB (previously 10 MB). The increased limit applies to the Email tool and Email Events (Workflow Configuration > Events). Note that if you attempt to send an email with an attachment greater than 25 MB, you will receive an error message.
Additionally, when using an SMTP server, Alteryx now returns an appropriate error message if your server returns the "exceeded size limit" response code. This can happen when the whole email message (the message itself and all the attachments) exceeds the limit set on the server. This limit is usually 25 MB, but it can vary. If this happens, Alteryx displays this message:
"Email not sent: Exceeded message size limit or recipient's mailbox is full. Remove large attachments and try again."
Data Cleanse Pro Improvements
We have enhanced the user interface and user experience of the Data Cleanse Pro tool to make it easier to understand, configure, and use. These updates include enhancements to the user experience in the "Replace String Columns" and "Replace Numeric Columns" sections, prevention of pasting invalid characters into configuration fields, and updates to the default selections in the tool configuration.
Cross Tab Tool Count Distinct Updates
We've updated the Count Distinct aggregation methods added to the Cross Tab tool in the 2025.1 release. This aggregation method is now supported for all data types.
In-DB Stored Procedure Support
We have added support for stored procedures via the Pre-SQL and Post-SQL statement functionality introduced in the 2025.1 release. This enhancement provides greater flexibility when working with In-DB tools. You can leverage stored procedures for tasks like data validation, logging, or cleanup operations, eliminating the need for external scripts. Stored procedure support is available via Data Stream In, Data Stream Out, and Write Data In-DB tools.
Note
Stored procedures are supported for these connections:
SQL Server for ODBC and Bulk Writer
Oracle for ODBC Only
Removed AMP Only Settings from CSV Reader
We have removed 2 AMP-only options that are no longer necessary from the Input Data tool (Allow Newlines in Quoted Fields and Force Single-threaded Reading). These operations are now handled automatically, whereas previously they required manual configuration to read CSV files correctly with the AMP engine. Note that in existing workflows these settings will be silently ignored.
Tool Connection Staples (Preview)
Note
Tool Connection Staples are in Preview during the 2025.2 release.
We have added new functionality in Designer to let you group tool connections together, which improves workflow readability, documentation, and organization. Tool Connection Staples make it easier to track data flows, onboard to workflows, and debug them, if needed. To learn more, go to Build Workflows.
Important
Connection Staples are not available for Basic users.
Insert Multiple Tools into a Connection
We have added a new canvas experience that allows you to select and insert multiple tools into an existing connection. Additionally, a new Paste Tools in Connection context menu option is available. To learn more, go to Build Workflows.
Double-click Features in Designer
We have implemented double-click actions for key tools to help you inspect data and workflow logic quickly, reducing context switching and unnecessary clicks. Double-click actions are now available for these tools:
Macros: Double-click the tool icon (on the canvas) for a tool that is a macro to open the underlying macro workflow in a new workflow tab and quickly inspect the macro details.
Browse tool: Double-click the Browse tool icon (on the canvas) to open the dataset in a new Results window and quickly investigate your workflow data.
Data Connectors Updates
You can now use AWS Trusted Identity Propagation with Redshift connections across multiple AWS accounts, making it easier to manage and scale workloads in multi-account environments.
You can now configure Databricks connections in proxy-enabled environments. This update supports workflows in restricted environments that require routing traffic through a proxy server.
You can now use UPSERT statements with Databricks, enabling more flexible and controlled data integration directly in Alteryx Designer.
We have improved the performance with the Starburst bulk loader. This enhancement significantly boosts write performance to Starburst, expanding integration capabilities between Alteryx and Starburst.
We have updated Databricks and DCM naming conventions. This includes cosmetic changes to authentication and driver names in the UI to improve consistency and clarity.
Workflow Migration Utility
To assist with the upgrades to the new connector versions, which enable the data sources in the Input Data and Output Data tools, we’re introducing a workflow migration utility. To learn about the eligible connector versions, go to Workflow Migration Utility.
Centralized Proxy Management
Centralized proxy becomes generally available in release 2025.2. In releases 2024.2 and 2025.1, it remains in public preview. Proxy configurations created in versions earlier than 2025.2 continue to work, but you can't edit them. To update your proxy settings, create a new configuration in centralized proxy. For more information, go to Proxy Settings.
Dark Mode Improvements
We have added Dark Mode compatibility to a number of additional tool configuration windows, as well as the expression editor. We have also resolved several minor UI defects in dark mode to deliver a visually consistent and accessible experience for those who rely on this theme.
Beta Release
Dark Mode functionality is still in Beta at this time. This means that only certain Designer interface components have been converted to Dark Mode. Additionally, you might see certain components (including many tool configurations) that are currently only partially converted to Dark Mode. We will continue to include additional elements for Dark Mode in future releases
HTML Developer Tools Removed from Advanced Options
Show HTML Developer Tools was moved from the Options > Advanced Options menu to an Alteryx debugging suite/menu.
